Local Rules For Winter Golf 2007/08
From October To April
1. Preferred Lies A ball lying on a closely mown area (fairway height or less) may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within 6 inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green. A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed. If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.

Having lifted the ball, he must drop it on a spot within 6 inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green It is in play when it has been dropped. If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
3. Relief for Embedded Ball A ball that is embedded in its own pitchmark in the ground, (plugged) other than sand or in a water hazard, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green. If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
4. Any ball, believed to be embedded in its own pitchmark in the ground (plugged), through the green (even on the faiway) that can not be found is deemed to be lost.
5. Protection of Young Trees If any tree less than one club length high interferes with a player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Local Rule. (Does Not Include Gorse Bushes Or Ferns etc. Only Young Trees)
6. In Strokeplay Medal Or Stableford Competitions competitors must hole out at every hole (no ‘gimmes’ ), as prescribed in Rule 3-2.
7. Handicapping Throughout the Winter (October – March) there will be no handicap qualifying competitions. The Handicap Committee will exercise the powers to adjust players’ handicaps under the provisions of clause 19 (General Play).
